Words of the Week

Dear families,

We finished up our report projects this week, and everyone had a chance to present one part of their report to the class. We focused on speaking with a loud, clear voice (which is necessary in our plays as well) and of course, speaking completely in French. I forgot to take pictures of the presentations, but here are our projects. I showed them off to my mom last weekend - she hasn't been in to visit in quite a while and was very impressed with our progress!

This week we began our next math unit on measurement. We are starting by measuring distances using various objects (e.g., toothpicks, pencils, paper clips, our feet) and talking about why it takes more of one thing and less of another to measure the same distance. We also learned the terms long and court. I only get to teach math until the end of this week and then Mlle Bradfield will take over and complete this unit with the class. She will touch on height, the benchmark of a metre, area, capacity and volume. We've got some fun activities in store!

Mlle Bradfield is our French teacher beginning tomorrow. She has planned a very exciting poetry unit for the class - a text form I have never gotten into as deeply as I would have liked to in grade 1. I'm excited to see what happens!

Words of the Week
Which day of the week does not end with ‘i’? Between last week and this week we have covered them all. Ask your child to sing you the song that helps us remember the order of the days in a week! Note: In the word “fille” (like “famille”), the final ‘lle’ are not really heard.

souris, gentil, fille, triste, tigre, lundi, mardi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche
Bonus words: coccinelle, je lis un livre
