Just a quick reminder that it's picture day tomorrow. I volunteered our class to go first, so please be on time for school!!

Picture Day!!
Dear parents,
There are a couple additions/changes to our October calendar. Picture day will be next Wednesday, October 17th. Kindergartens are usually in the morning, so please send your children to school wearing their biggest smile!
We have also extended the deadline for the Farm trip forms and payment to next Friday, October 19th. The forms are just coming home today.
This week you received a "learnmark", a bookmark with information about the TDSB's virtual library. You can access the library online through the TDSB's homepage. First, find your school, and then click on "Virtual Library" on the left. It should take you here. There are lots of great resources available, many of which I have yet to explore. Let me know if you find something amazing!
Recently, some of our students were showing a great deal of interest in dinosaurs! To extend upon their interest, we got out our dinosaur toys and we switched our water centre to moon sand (thanks to the students who had that activity bag already) and buried a few fossils to dig for. Ask your students what they have to do before and after using the moon sand.
Here are the days of the week to review this week. We know them VERY well, thanks to a song that we learned on the first day of school.

Les amis de lecture
Dear families,
We had a good week in salle 101. In anticipation of Thanksgiving, we did some writing and drawing about something in our life we are thankful for. We also made some very cute hand print turkeys or fall trees.
Last week, we made attachment hearts stuffed with sage, as an orange shirt day activity. The kids brought it home to offer to someone they are "attached to".
In case you haven't heard, we have teamed up with Mlle Gleason's grade 3 class for weekly reading buddies. Each of our students has a grade 3 partner and they have been choosing books that they would like to have read to them. We discussed how to sit in order to share a book, and how to help our partners be good buddies (e.g., by asking them to explain parts we don't understand). Last week, we also split into 4 larger groups and our reading buddies helped us play the memory games we have in our class. It was a great way to learn how to play the game correctly, and to develop those important cooperative skills. Please ask your student who their buddy is and what books they like to like to read.
We have learned lots of poems in the first month of school, and students have done drawings of them for our poem board as a reminder of what we have learned. Ask your student what poem they can teach you!
We have also spent a couple weeks learning about the letters A and E in French, and now we have added I. The vowels are the most different from the English letters, so we are starting with them. Consonants are much the same, and our kids are pretty confident with their English letters. Nevertheless, we will review each one in French as it is my goal that our kids are strong in their letters and sounds when they go into grade 1.
For your benefit, and to help you be the at-home teacher, here are a few notes about the French sounds we have learned:
A has a softer sound in French. Think "as" or "apple".
E is completely different. Think "put" or "foot".
I is like the English E. Think "she" or "he".
If you have a book in your activity bag, have your student point out these letters!

Recently I had an opportunity to visit St. John's, Newfoundland. This is where Terry Fox began his run, and there is a statue of him there. We read about this in class last week, so I told the kids I would show them the picture sometime. Please share this with them!
