Poisson d'avril!

Dear families,

Last Friday, I had such fun sneakily sticking a paper fish to the backs of students - the French April fool's tradition! They loved the joke and wanted to keep passing it on! I also played a little trick on the class by writing our morning message backwards and upside down... the kids seemed surprised when I suggested that we actually read it!

On Friday we had our second gymnastic period with Mary Ann. It looked like to much fun!

Last week we also continued with lots of science explorations. We investigated heat energy by doing an experiment where we put food colouring in 2 cups - one cold water and one hot water. The scientists noticed that the food colouring mixed very quickly with the hot water and turned the water blue immediately. In the cold water, the food colouring didn't mix very quickly, and the colour was deeper at the bottom while the water stayed pretty clear near the top for a while. We talked about how heat can make things (like water) move, and acted out how steam moves v. an ice cube! Like all good scientists, we took notes about the experiment, including a prediction, what we observed, and the result.

Another day, we talked about mechanical energy and made our own springs to use in our own version of a jack-in-the-box. They turned out really well, and it was sweet that so many students were thinking about someone special that they wanted to gift it to, as they made it.

In French, we did another round of centres while I read with students. The Bingo and Cherche et Trouve computer games are good listening activities, and are linked to Google Classroom.

In math, we have been working on some harder problems including some double digits, repeated addition (becoming multiplication) and sharing. Recently, we had to solve a marshmallow mystery, so of course we had to have real marshmallows to count with!

Dewson is going to update its Logo! All students were asked to submit a new logo design, so we spent some time working on this. They will all be posted in the school and we will vote!

Hopefully you received the reminder about picture day, which is coming up soon on April 12th!

Finally, I will just let you know that this week has become very busy for me with appointments - don't worry, Wales and I are fine and I'm not going anywhere. Just a few too many supply teachers this week. I apologize!
