We had a fantastic time at Track & Field this afternoon. Everyone was super encouraging and enthusiastic. We participated in 4 events: bean bag throw, long distance run, run & jump and short sprint. All students were rewarded with a freezie and ribbon! Big shout out to our grade 6 gym teachers - they were fabulous!
Last week we finished up our measurement unit by learning to compare the capacities of various containers. This week we will do one last project to sum up all the different ways we have learned to measure!
This week we are also finishing our poetry unit by selecting, revising and publishing one of our favourite poems from the bank of poems we wrote as we learned about different types of poems. Wednesday and Thursday we will each get a chance to read our chosen poem for an audience at our very special "Poetry Cafés". The writers have all seen and discussed the rubric that will be used for this final poetry project so we are working hard on making corrections and doing our best work! Please ask your poet which poem (or which type of poem) they have decided to prepare for their final presentation.
CAUTION: Sad news ahead
I am sad to say that our time with Mlle Bradfield has almost come to an end. As you've read, we are finishing up all the units we have been working on with her and her last day with us will be Thursday. Over the last 4 weeks, and even before, Mlle Bradfield has been such a great support and teacher to our students. She has become as much their real teacher as I am and has taken over much of the planning, teaching and assessing duties. In fact, with Mlle Bradfield doing so much of my work, I was able to use my after school hours to completely reorganize the primary resource room! (Actually, she helped me with that too!)
We have really been spoiled this year to have so many wonderful Teacher Candidates visit our classroom and provide extra support to students. I hope I remember how to do this job on my own! Please join me in thanking Mlle Bradfield if you see her around the school this week, and wish her luck as she begins her teaching career!
